Welcome to Alyxx’s Counseling Blog!
Here is the spot where I plan to share thoughts, interesting experiences, and maybe an exercise or two that will really help everyone move forward.
For my initial offering, I want to share a story that encapsulates one of my core beliefs – helping one tiny part of your world means more than you will ever know!
The original is from The Star Thrower by Loren Eiseley. This is a book that talks about caring for the living. This is not the original, but it is the version I like best.
******************************
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf.
Then, smiling at the man, he said “I made a difference for that one.”
So, my friends, why do I love this story? Why do I tell it? Is it relevant to your life at all? If you feel moved, let me know in session or do a journal entry on it!
